RE: Evacuation Help for RVers from Hurricane

I would plan on leaving at LEAST 10 hours before a mandatory evac is ordered. ( remember that it is a holiday weekend and there will be a lot of people on the road. Normal trip of 4.5 hours Mobile to Birmingham could be 6-10 hours) I just read that NOLA is considering a Sat AM evac order. Here in the Birmingham area there are a few CG's to choose from. As stated earlier there is the Hoover RV (just a parking lot) There is also Oak Mountain State Park and then Birmingham South (former KOA) You may want to try and make a resveration NOW to make sure you have a spot. (if you lose a $30 deposit its better than not having somewhere to go) Also make sure that you also do as mentioned before and keep you tanks full. During Katrina people ran out of gas in the line at the pumps. Good Luck and be safe.

RE: Do we stay or do we go??? Gustav :(

Okay, we cancelled. Did not want TD #8 cutting off our return trip. Sooo, any suggestions??? Maryland, Virginia? We were wanting to be on water. Smart move ! (no matter what anyone else says). Something else NOW to consider. There is YET another system forming off of Mexico. A BIG what IF but if that system keeps moving north then it wil either force Gustav to the east or them could even join together. It will be an eventfull nrxt few days.

RE: Do we stay or do we go??? Gustav :(

gonna make final decision tomorrow but we're looking for alternate places just in case. STAY AWAY ! First of all I am not a panic type person BUT I live in the Birmingham area and I am not even going to the lake (lake martin, alex city) because with my luck the storm will turn and come a shore quicker and early that expected. Now the main reasons for YOU to stay clear 1) about the time you get here will be when the State begins to consider an evacuation order. You would really hate to get caught in that traffic. (think of 100,000 (or more) people on the intersate heading north.) 2) Even if you stopped early and stayed in the Birmingham area you would be taking up a badly needed site that someone from the coast would need to LIVE at untl it was clear to go home. (this is the main reason I will not go anywhere this weekend.) 3) No one really know where this storm will go. Remember in 1985 ELANE visited the Gulf Coast tha the same time. She went up and down the coast for a few days before finely making landfall in Miss. (my ex's family spent the WEEK with us until it cleared) Be safe and stay above the Alabama, Miss, La area.

RE: Sold on Dodge Mega Cab...

I went to my local Dodge dealer as they have a $20k off MSRP deal. One picks a truck and takes 20k off the sticker. Now that's a deal (or steal) and no hassle. I sincerely wish you luck on the 20k off deal. I spent the last 2.5 weeks beating on the dealers within 70 miles of home. Best deal was the local dealer. $10k off (21%) a 3500 4x4 6.7L Lonestar and $12k off (32%) a 1500 4x4 Hemi Lonestar. I was at the Dealer today for service. While waiting I checked out the few trucks left on their lot. They have a 08 2500 MC cummins sticker of 52k.(fully loaded) As the saleman great me he started of with "that truck is 45% off sticker". That is at least $23000. This dealer has another location and he told me if they did not have what I want he should be able to get it. They want to clear out the 08's before the 09's come in.

RE: Lake Guntersville and Monte Sano, AL?

I know a LOT more about the Gulf Coast than I do North Alabama. There are 4 really nice CG's that we really like. You may want to start checking out the coast now since Dec is the start of Snowbird season and the CG's will be busy. When your ready PM me and I will send you some links. Also regarding Guntersville being a party place that may be true during the summer but when you are going the kids are in school so at least during the week it will be REAL quite.

RE: Lake Guntersville and Monte Sano, AL?

North Alabama in late Sept will be very nice. The leaves should be begining to change. On Lake Guntersville you have a few choices of campgrounds. There is Guntersville State Park(larger and more full hookups), Buck Pocket State Park(smaller, less full hookups). There are also a some private CG's, the one we like best is Little Mountain Marina and campground. Little Mtn cost more but it has a pool. I'm not sure about the route to take but just take your time and slow down and you will be ok. (also take a day trip without the TT and check out the route and the different CG's.)

RE: Did my good deed for a fellow TT owner

Remember to "pay it forward" you need to keep your bank of good deeds full. If for no other reason than it is the right thing to do.

RE: Birmingham South Alabama

From the forecast now I believe that by Friday it will be ok. (this time of the year we usually have a few afternoon t'showers anyway. You said thet you would have a tent. Did you check with the campground about tents? I hope that the weather clears myself. We are wanting to go camping at the lake for the weekend ourself. I will try and get pic's Sunday or Monday.

RE: Birmingham South Alabama

When are you heading this way? The forecast is for a chance of rain all week. (20-30% Thur &Fri as of now) If FAY takes the track that she is predicted to then it looks like she may swing back around through Miss. and effect us late this week again. If I get a chance the next day or so I will stop and take some pic's.
